BMS GIRLS BASKETBALL VS. LAMAR

8A: The 8A Belton Tigers fell 16–12 to Lamar in their second game of the season, but the night was marked by improvement and strong individual performances across the board. The team showed noticeable progress in defending layups, running cleaner transitions, and having the posts find guards more effectively after rebounds. Ava Baggett set the tone offensively, showing leadership and toughness as she attacked the basket and absorbed contact on her drives. Soley Torres provided key screens throughout the game and continued to improve her presence on put-backs around the rim. Emily Potts kept the offense flowing with great movement and consistent drives to the basket, creating opportunities for her teammates. Grace Thomas had one of her best rebounding nights and attacked the basket with increased confidence. Despite the narrow loss, the Tigers demonstrated growth, grit, and teamwork. These are promising signs as they continue building toward the rest of their season. 8B: The Lady Tigers 8th Grade B Team stepped onto the court this week and delivered their most impressive performance of the season. Although the final score didn’t fall in our favor, the game was a true victory in every other sense. The girls demonstrated noticeable improvement from their previous outing, showing just how hard they’ve been working. From start to finish, the Lady Tigers played like a united team. Their offensive movement was sharper, their communication stronger, and their passing more purposeful. On defense, the girls held their ground with determination—pressuring the ball, contesting shots, and refusing to give the opposing team easy opportunities. Even when the game grew tight, the Lady Tigers maintained their composure and executed with excellence. Their ability to hold off their opponents and stay competitive for all four quarters was a reflection of teamwork, hustle, and heart. Three players especially stood out in this game. Averi Lozano was a defensive powerhouse. She hustled nonstop, took hits without hesitation, and played with the kind of toughness and reliability her coaches could count on every possession. Her determination set the tone on defense. Kylie Capella had an exceptional performance as well. She dominated in her role as post, controlling the paint and making smart plays on both ends of the floor. When called to step into another position, she adjusted quickly and led confidently—showing true versatility and leadership. Annaliza Zuniga made a major impact with her aggressive defense and ability to take contact. She used every hit as motivation, never allowing setbacks to slow her down. Her resilience and drive pushed her to be the strongest version of herself on the court, inspiring her teammates along the way. Overall, the entire team showed tremendous improvement. Their teamwork, effort, and heart made this game a true step forward for the Lady Tigers. Great job, Lady Tigers—keep pushing, keep improving, and keep playing with that same fire! 7A: The Lady Tigers 7th Grade A-Team secured a stunning and dominant victory last night, defeating Lamar Middle School with a final score of 24-0. This remarkable performance showcased major improvements from their first game, proving that the team is successfully applying what they learn and practice into action on the court. Leading the charge was Emily Munoz, who not only scored 6 points but also displayed excellent leadership and impressive aggressiveness in the paint. Eden McCullum was a key contributor with 4 points, showing tremendous hustle by grabbing offensive rebounds that provided crucial second-chance opportunities for the team. Addison Webb contributed 4 points with her excellent ball-handling skills and court awareness. Avery Mills also scored 4 points and exhibited great leadership by guiding her teammates and effectively controlling the tempo of the game. This shutout victory highlights the team's relentless defensive effort and strong communication. The team will now shift its focus to preparing for their next game on Wednesday, December 10th, against SC Lee. 7B: Ourania Guardiola set the tone early, owning the boards with relentless rebounding and refusing to give Lamar second-chance opportunities. Her dominance in the paint translated into offense as she knocked down two baskets and a clutch free throw, turning defensive grit into points that fueled the Tigers’ early surge. Her presence underneath became one of the defining factors of the game, giving Belton a physical edge that Lamar struggled to match. Ava Smith lit up the scoreboard with a standout performance, piling on six baskets with smooth finishes, quick transitions, and smart shot selection. Her ability to create scoring opportunities kept Lamar's defense scrambling, and each possession seemed to tilt the momentum further in Belton’s favor. On the defensive end, Allison McCoy was unstoppable, reading passing lanes with laser-sharp precision and racking up multiple steals that stripped Lamar of any chance to build rhythm. She added five baskets of her own, turning turnovers into fast-break gold and energizing the entire roster. From start to finish, the Tigers showcased exactly what makes this group special—effort, cohesion, and the refusal to quit on any play. With contributions coming from every direction and standout performances from Guardiola, Smith, and McCoy, Belton walked off the court with a well-earned victory and the momentum to carry into their next matchup. A commanding win. A statement game. A team that’s only getting better. Go Tigers!
