BMS GIRLS BASKETBALL AT JARRELL RANCH TOURNAMENT
8A: The 8A Tigers opened tournament play with a 26–10 win over Jarrell Middle School. Ynissa Wightman led the scoring with seven points, while Emily Potts delivered a strong all-around performance with six points, one assist, two blocks, one steal, and one rebound, keeping the offense organized and moving. Soley Torres brought toughness on both ends, finishing with six points, two blocks, one steal, and two rebounds. Grace Thomas controlled the paint with four points, three rebounds, two blocks, and one steal. Ava Baggett made a major impact on both ends, knocking down a three-pointer and anchoring the defense with four steals, three blocks, two assists, and one rebound.
In game two, BMS battled to a gritty 14–9 win over Jarrell Ranch Middle School, relying on defense and rebounding. Soley Torres led the way with six points and six rebounds, setting the tone with physical play. Grace Thomas dominated the boards with ten rebounds, adding four points, two blocks, and one steal. Emily Potts continued to keep the offense flowing with four points, two rebounds, and one assist, while Ava Baggett anchored the defense once again with five blocks, two steals, and one rebound.
The Tigers closed the tournament with a hard-fought 8–13 loss to Lampasas in a defensive battle. Grace Thomas anchored the paint with an outstanding performance, recording four points, six rebounds, six blocks, and one steal. Ynissa Wightman added two points and one assist, while Jalynne Prado contributed two points and one block. Adilynn Collins came up with a key steal, and Ayani Ortiz provided energy off the bench with two rebounds and one steal.
Across all three games, Belton Middle School showed toughness, discipline, and growth, especially on the defensive end and on the glass. The Tigers’ effort and teamwork throughout the Jarrell Ranch Tournament highlighted their continued development and competitiveness as the season moves forward.
8B: The 8B Lady Tigers traveled to Jarrell on Saturday for a full day of competitive basketball, and it turned out to be a great experience filled with tough opponents, valuable lessons, and an exciting milestone for the team.
The Lady Tigers opened the tournament against Lampasas in a physical and challenging matchup. Although the game ended in a loss, it was an important learning experience. The team gained valuable insight into their offensive sets and the level of defensive energy needed.
Their second game was against Jarrell Ranch, which was a close and hard-fought contest. Despite another tough loss, the girls never gave up and continued to battle until the final buzzer. This game tested their resilience and brought the team even closer together.
The final game of the day was against Jarrell, and it marked a major moment for the season—the Lady Tigers earned their first win, 16–10. The team used everything they had learned from the earlier games as building blocks, showing growth, confidence, and determination on the court. The excitement and pride were evident as the girls celebrated their hard-earned victory.
Several players stood out throughout the tournament. Averi Lozano was a defensive force, always playing aggressively and stepping up when it mattered most. Lillian Perrine impressed as a quick guard, consistently stealing the ball and driving hard to the basket. Kylie Capella was another tough defender, often the first player down the court and ready to attack the basket. Ava Boeselt provided strong and steady leadership, calling plays and serving as someone her teammates could always rely on.
This tournament was a true turning point for the Lady Tigers. We are so proud of the hard work and dedication these girls have shown all season, and can’t wait to see what they accomplish in their final games.
7A: The 7th grade girls' basketball team put on an impressive display of teamwork and grit this past Saturday at the Jarrell Tournament. The girls opened the weekend with a dominant performance against Jarrell Ranch, cruising to a 32-6 victory. The offense was firing on all cylinders, led by Emily Munoz and Sophie Hughes, who both put up 8 points. More importantly, the game served as a massive confidence booster as the team successfully executed set plays and moved the ball with precision, showing a high level of basketball IQ for this stage of the season.
The momentum continued into the second game against Jarrell, though it proved to be a much tighter, defensive battle. In a game that came down to the wire, the girls secured an 18-15 win through pure hustle. Pierce Lunday was a spark plug on the court, using her trademark aggressiveness to disrupt the opponent and chip in 3 points. Ashlyn Briggs was equally vital, cleaning up the glass with multiple rebounds and finishing strong on layups to set her team up for success. Meanwhile, Gracelyn Garelick proved to be a defensive force, playing with intense energy and contributing key points on the offensive end to help seal the victory.
In the final matchup of the day, the team faced a tough Lampasas squad. Although the game ended in a loss, the girls fought until the final buzzer. Eden McCullum stood out for her relentless work in the paint, hauling in numerous offensive rebounds and converting them into putbacks, while also anchoring the "help defense" on the other end. Throughout the entire tournament, point guard Addison Webb acted as the team’s floor general. Her leadership and poise in all three games kept the team organized and focused, proving her to be a true leader on the court.
7B: Saturday’s tournament was nothing short of electric as the Lady Tigers battled through a tough slate of games against Jarrell, Jarrell Ranch, and Lampasas and emerged proudly undefeated, defending their title with grit, confidence, and clutch shooting.
From the opening tip, it was clear this tournament would be decided by shot-making and composure under pressure. Time and again, the Lady Tigers rose to the moment, answering every run with poise and precision. The highlight of the day came as Emma Alvarez, Alivia Florez, and A’Rihanna Baker each knocked down three-pointers for the first time, a milestone that ignited the bench and shifted momentum in key moments. Their confidence from beyond the arc stretched defenses and opened the floor, turning the tournament into a true battle of the shots one the Lady Tigers were ready to win.
Defense remained relentless, hustle never wavered, and teamwork was on full display across every matchup. Against strong, physical opponents, the Lady Tigers showed resilience, staying composed and executing when it mattered most.
When the final buzzer sounded, the message was clear: this team is growing, fearless, and united. Remaining undefeated was no accident; it was the result of hard work, trust in one another, and the willingness to step up when the game demanded it. The Lady Tigers showed out on Saturday, and the season’s momentum continues to build.
