BELTON MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL AT LAKE BELTON MIDDLE SCHOOL
Belton Middle School made a statement against Lake Belton on Monday, becoming the first program to avoid a complete sweep by Lake Belton this season! Every team competed with heart, determination, and a commitment to fighting for every point. A special congratulations to 7A for helping make this milestone possible! The Tigers continue to show that hard work, teamwork, and a never-give-up mentality can make a difference. We are proud of the way our entire program continues to compete, grow, and represent BMS! Way to go, Tigers!
8A: Belton Middle School’s 8A volleyball team faced one of its toughest challenges of the season against Lake Belton Middle School in a matchup between two undefeated teams. The competition was intense from the first serve to the final point, with both teams battling at a high level. BMS fell just short, losing the first set 25-19 and the second set 28-26, but the girls showed tremendous heart, determination, and growth throughout the match.
The Tigers played together, worked hard, communicated, and competed in a fast-paced, high-level game of volleyball. Every rally challenged them to think quickly, trust one another, and execute under pressure. These are the kinds of games that will prepare these athletes for their future in volleyball. Competing against strong opponents pushes players beyond their comfort zones, reveals areas for growth, and builds the confidence and resilience needed to take the next step.
Avery Mills had an outstanding performance, contributing 11 serves, 6 aces, a diving play, 1 block, 3 kills, and an impressive 21 assists. Her ability to distribute the ball and create opportunities for her teammates helped keep the BMS offense moving throughout the match.
Aubrey Crayton was a force at the net and contributed in multiple areas, recording 7 serves, 2 aces, 2 blocks, 9 kills, and 8 assists. Her offensive production and versatility helped the Tigers remain competitive in a hard-fought battle.
Sophie Hughes continued to demonstrate her versatility and court awareness with 7 serves, 1 ace, 8 kills, and 13 assists. Her contributions on offense helped maintain the fast pace of the match and gave BMS opportunities to challenge Lake Belton's defense.
Defensively, Gracelyn Garelick, BMS’s libero, played exceptionally well in the back row and in serve receive. Her communication, court awareness, and ability to keep the ball in play helped create opportunities for the team. She recorded 2 serves, an assist, and a diving play that directly resulted in a point for the Tigers. Her willingness to sacrifice for the ball and do the little things that often go unnoticed made a meaningful impact on the team's performance.
While individual performances stood out, this match was about so much more than statistics. Each and every player contributed to the team's bigger goals through effort, communication, encouragement, and a willingness to do her part. Volleyball is a team sport, and the progress this group continues to make is a reflection of their commitment to one another and to becoming better athletes and teammates.
As coaches, we want our athletes to understand that the scoreboard does not define them. The bigger picture is who they are becoming as people and as athletes. Are they learning? Are they responding to challenges? Are they working together, communicating, and giving their best when things get difficult? Those are the things that will stay with them long after a final score is recorded.
This team has made tremendous progress, and we could not be prouder of the way these girls continue to compete and grow. Matches like this are opportunities to learn, build confidence, and prepare for the challenges ahead. The Tigers have shown they can compete with strong teams, and we are excited to see them continue putting everything together.
Next up: DISTRICT TOURNAMENT on Saturday! The work continues, the energy stays high, and the belief in this group remains strong. Let's take everything we have learned, trust our preparation, play for one another, and compete with confidence. We are proud of this team and cannot wait to see what they accomplish next. Go Tigers!

In the first set, Lake Belton gained the advantage, and we struggled to find our rhythm. However, our team came out in the second set with more energy, determination, and confidence. We played much better, fought for every point, and showed great improvement as we worked to close the gap. Although we came up short, the second set was a much stronger performance and showed how much fight this team has!

The girls continued to compete, encourage one another, and push through challenging moments. Their improved effort in the second set was a highlight of the match, showing their determination, teamwork, and ability to bounce back.
Although the final score wasn’t what we hoped for, we are proud of the team’s effort and improvement. We’ll continue to build on these positives, learn from this experience, and keep working hard as we prepare for our next game!
7A: In a hard-fought matchup that showcased grit, growth, and relentless hustle, the 7A Lady Tigers earned a thrilling two-set victory over Lake Belton Middle School. Winning with tight set scores of 25-22 and 26-24, the victory served as a true testament to the team’s dedication and commitment to improving both individually and as a cohesive unit. Every point was contested, but the Lady Tigers refused to back down when the pressure mounted.
The momentum shifted early in the opening set thanks to a dominant service performance by Aliyah Batchelor. Batchelor put together a clutch stretch of 8 successful serves in a single set, allowing the Lady Tigers to surge ahead and claim the lead. In addition to her damage at the service line, Batchelor brought a strong physical presence to the net, applying relentless defensive pressure on Lake Belton’s hitters throughout the night.
As the second set came down to the wire, Calahan Torres delivered key plays on both sides of the ball. Torres recorded an impressive four kills on the night while establishing herself as an absolute force defensively at the net. With the game on the line in the second set, Torres stepped back to serve under immense pressure, delivering a strike to seal the dramatic 26-24 win.
Grounding the team's defensive efforts was libero Zoey Copeland, who played a lights-out match from the back row. Copeland totaled seven successful serves on the night, but her true impact came through her relentless work ethic on defense. Diving for tough digs, tracking down loose balls, and hustling across every inch of the court to keep plays alive, Copeland continuously proved why she has earned her spot as the team’s defensive anchor.
Overall, the Lady Tigers have shown remarkable development across the board as their hard work continues to pay off. With momentum firmly on their side, the team now turns its focus to maintaining this high level of play as they prepare for the District Tournament on Saturday, October 24th!
7B: The local crosstown rivalry between the Belton Tigers and the Lake Belton Broncos brought intense energy to the court in a hard-fought volleyball match. From the opening whistle of the first set, the Lake Belton Broncos came in hot, setting an aggressive pace backed by sharp, pinpoint serving. By playing disciplined, error-free volleyball and controlling the tempo from the service line, the Broncos put immediate pressure on the Tigers' backline and efficiently claimed the opening set.
Refusing to back down, the Belton Tigers roared into the second set ready to fight back hard. Brooklyn Carter sparked critical momentum from the service line, going on a clutch run that allowed the Tigers to close the gap to 17-20. On defense, Olivia Villarreal-Rivera stood strong and ready for anything thrown her way, tracking down key plays to keep the Tigers within striking distance. Ultimately, Lake Belton managed to hold off the rally to take the set, but Belton's persistent energy proved their heart and adaptability under pressure.
Although the Broncos secured the set wins, the Tigers demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination throughout every rotation. Up next, the Belton Tigers turn their focus to the court once again as they compete in the District Tournament on Saturday, October 24th!
